Rare antique Edwardian era 18k yellow gold double snake ring! This incredible handmade antique ring features a triple-shank design that twists into two serpent heads that are decorated with a synthetic pink sapphire and a natural blue sapphire. An incredible antique statement piece dripping with Victorian era symbolism!

METAL / MATERIAL - 18k yellow gold, natural blue sapphire (approx. 3.3 x 2.8 mm), synthetic pink sapphire (approx. 3.2 mm)
(Synthetic, or lab-created, gemstones are chemically the same as their natural counterparts, but are made in a lab by man. The process for creating colored gemstones was developed in the 1800s.)
MARKINGS / HISTORY - Piece is hallmarked for 18k gold, London, 1916 with a "Z.Z." maker's mark. In 1840 Queen Victoria received an exquisite snake & emerald ring from Prince Albert for their engagement, which greatly increased the popularity of the snake motif. Snakes often coiled body position can also be a symbol of everlasting and eternal love. Additionally, since snakes shed their skin, this can represent regeneration, rebirth or transformation.
CONDITION - Good antique condition. Gold metal has been professionally cleaned. Gemstones are secure. Age consistent wear and patina remain. Beautiful and rare Victorian era heirloom piece!
