Antique Edmond Halley Fob - Victorian 10k Yellow Gold Carved Sard Pendant Necklace - Circa 1830s Vintage Celestial Comet Jewelry

Rare collectible Edmond Halley intaglio fob from the 1800s! This beautiful 10k gold fob seal features a carved sard gemstone at the bottom that depicts the bust of a man, assumed to be Edmond Halley, next to a small comet carving. The fob hangs from a 20" gold filled chain that was added by us. Beautiful historical piece, ready for another lifetime!

MARKINGS / HISTORY - Edmond Halley was an astronomer and mathematician who was made famous by predicting the return of Halley's Comet for 1758. The comet returned again in 1835, right before the start of the Victorian era, when celestial symbolism was highly popular. Throughout the centuries, comets have been seen both as omens of disaster and as signs of hope and wonder. Like many other celestial themes, Halley's Comet and the scientist it was named after were depicted in jewelry in the Georgian and Victorian eras.

CONDITION - Good antique condition. Piece has been professionally cleaned. Minimal age consistent wear and patina remain. New 14k bail was added by our jeweler. Stunning antique fob!
