Introducing our White Sapphire Engagement Ring Collection: Genuine Vintage Settings, Paired with Responsibly Sourced Gems!

We are so excited to unveil a project we have been working on here at MJV. We have collaborated with our jeweler (say hello to him on Instagram: @monkeywithahammer) and a socially responsible gemstone provider to bring you amazing alternative engagement rings, featuring genuine earth mined white sapphires and real vintage settings (no reproductions here!)

When we are hunting for inventory, we often come across vintage and antique mounts that are either void of stones, or the gems they contain are so worn and chipped, they need to be replaced. Over the past year, we have collected quite a few of these amazing settings, dating from the late 1800s to the mid-twentieth century. With the help of our jeweler, we are restoring these rings to their original beauty!

The first two rings of the collection will be released in the next week or so! We hope you love this collection as much as we do. <3

Q & A

1. Why white sapphires?

We chose to set the rings with white sapphires for several reasons, including affordability, durability, and beauty.
Affordability: White sapphires are beautiful and rare gemstones, but cost a fraction of the price of an equivalently sized diamond.
Durability: On the Mohs scale of gemstone hardness, sapphires are the hardest gemstone other than diamonds (a diamond rates as a 10, while a sapphire rates as a 9). Because of their durability, sapphires are a wonderful gemstone choice for an engagement ring. They can hold up to daily wear and tear.
Beauty: Our white sapphires are absolutely beautiful. They are AA quality, beautifully faceted, and eye clean.

2. Why a vintage setting?

Recycle: Wearing vintage is a great way to be "green" and recycle metal that is already in existence, compared to mining for new gold.
Uniqueness: Our vintage settings are unique and one of a kind! If you want something a little different that no one else has, one of these rings may be for you!
Craftmanship: You know the old saying “they don’t make them like they use to”? We agree! Our selected vintage settings are timeless and were made with care, decades ago. The white sapphires are hand selected and lovingly set by our jeweler, who is as passionate about vintage jewelry as we are!

3. Do the rings come with any paperwork?

Yes! Each stone is individually graded by a graduate gemologist, and comes with a gemstone grading analysis paper, with all the pertinent details of your gemstone!

4. Are the white sapphires ethically sourced?

Yes! Our white sapphires are sourced ethically and responsibly. The gem wholesaler we work with strictly abides by both humanitarian and environmental standards. Our vendor and their suppliers abide by the US Patriot Act, and uphold the highest ethical standards and are committed to always being socially responsible.

5. Are the white sapphires real?

The white sapphires in this collection are genuine, earth-mined sapphires - NOT lab created.

6. When will more of these rings be available?

We hope to be adding more of these rings to our Etsy website in the next month or so - stay tuned!

7. How do I care for my vintage white sapphire ring?

Although vintage and antique jewelry has already stood the test of time, it deserves special care. We recommend removing jewelry prior to hand washing, vigorous activity, and prior to sleeping. After we ship the piece out, it is the buyer’s responsibility to ensure proper care, maintenance, and possible repairs. We advise that jewelry worn frequently be inspected by a trusted jeweler every six months. This is a good preventative measure to confirm all prongs are intact and gemstones are secure.
