In 1863, David Belais founded Belais Manufacturing Company. In 1917, David Belais of Belais Brothers submitted his special formula of white gold, and the patent was applied for in October of 1918, and approved in 1920. The Belais alloy became so popular, that during the 1920s, white gold was sometimes referred to as “Belais metal.”
Belais jewelry is highly collectible & sought after, because their company is considered to be one of the first to use white gold in the U.S. Their pieces are like owning a piece of jewelry history!
We are big fans of learning as much as we can about hallmarks, because it helps to date a piece and it uncovers more information about its origin. Another favorite hallmark of ours is OB for Ostby and Barton. You can read more information about this historical jewelry hallmark here.
We are always on the hunt for Belais pieces to add to our shop. The quality, attention to detail, and history behind the pieces make them quite desirable!
